HAMILTON
MAINTAINS SIXTH IN POINT’S RACE FOLLOWING WATKINS GLEN
With two steady
road races in a row, McDonald’s NASCAR Busch Series
driver Bobby Hamilton, Jr. maintained his sixth place position
in the point’s championship race. Saturday’s Zippo
200 was the final road race of the season, a fact that brings
a smile to the face of Hamilton. With eleven races remaining
on the schedule, Hamilton and the Team Rensi Motorsports group
can focus on racing in circles versus the right and left hand
turns of road courses.
Hamilton started Saturday’s
race from the 27th position but dropped to the rear of the
43 car field following an early race pit stop for chassis
adjustments. With improved handling, Hamilton drove forward
and began chasing a top-twenty finish. With each lap the lap
times improved and he inched forward in the running order.
The McDonald’s
Drive Thru Crew performed well in the pits and Hamilton moved
into the top twenty with less than 15 laps remaining. The
Tennessee native fought hard to hold onto the top-twenty finish
before dropping to 22nd at the checkered flag.
“Now we can get
back to racing oval track racing at Michigan next weekend,”
Hamilton said. “We did a good job of keeping our equipment
together the last two weeks, now it’s time to get the
McDonald’s Ford back inside the top-ten. We are looking
forward to the next few weeks and racing our way to fourth
or fifth in the point’s race.”
As many expected, Nextel
Cup driver Kevin Harvick made it two wins in a row on Saturday.
The Busch Series will now head to Michigan International Speedway
for racing action on Saturday afternoon. Check your local
listings for broadcast times in your area. |
