ROOKIE’S
ERROR COST HAMILTON IN KENTUCKY
McDonald’s
NASCAR Busch Series driver Bobby Hamilton paid the price for
a rookie’s mistake on Saturday Night. Hamilton’s
No. 35 Ford Fusion was nearly destroyed when AJ Frank, a rookie
driver, drove into its side. The impact sent Hamilton slamming
into the wall and ended his night with a trip to the infield
care center where he was treated and released.
Prior to the accident,
Hamilton had his focus set on contending for a victory at
The Kentucky Speedway, the site of his second career victory
in 2003. The McDonald’s Ford had qualified 17th for
the 200 lap event. The car was just beginning to come into
contention on lap 97 when the wreck occurred.
“This was a disappointing
end to what should have been a great night of racing for our
team,” said Hamilton. “We took a big hit in the
points and had a great racecar destroyed here tonight. Now
we head to Milwaukee and put this behind us. It’s time
to get the McDonald’s Ford back up front on Saturday
Night.”
Busch Series regular
Stephen Leicht held off the Nextel Cup drivers to claim the
win before 70,000 fans at The Kentucky Speedway. Next Saturday
Night, The Series heads to The Milwaukee Mile for racing action.
